Folleto del Tema Habitat

Rating

Each participant has 10 minutes to find, in the natural environment, a living element that amazes them. It can be a flower, a leaf, a fruit, a seed, a rock, an insect, etc. The idea is that this element is captivating for its simple perfection.

Materials per participant:

  • A sheet with an observation guide.
  • A pencil, a sharpener, an eraser.
  1. You will take a slow and silent tour of the nature trail.
  2. Each of you will keep a distance of about 25 steps from each other.
  3. None of you should stray too far from the path.
  4. They will have one person as a guide per group. This person will let you know when the time (it will be 12 to 15 minutes) for this activity is almost over. They will remain silent and only hand signals will be used to communicate.
  5. As you walk, pay close attention to what your eyes see.
  6. When you discover something that awakens your curiosity, get as close as you can and discover everything that reveals the mystery before your eyes.
  7. If possible, use your other senses—smell, touch, taste, and hearing—to complete your discovery. They must not alter or disturb the observed object.
  8. When you are sure you have completed your discovery, use the guide sheet to write down the details you observed. (You will have 10 minutes for this)
  9. Pay attention to the instructions of your guide.
  • Make sure in advance that you choose a natural site with trails that is attractive and safe.
  • Prepare a group of facilitators by conducting the activity with them beforehand.
  • You need one facilitator for every five participants.
  • Prepare the observation guide sheet in advance. An example appears in box #10 of this presentation.
  • Ask the participants to deposit the electronic devices in a bag that you will keep in a safe place.
  • To start this activity, allow the participants not to enter the trail together, but one by one, leaving a gap of at least one minute between them or simply enter the forest using different paths.
  • To conclude this activity, do a closing. Allow participants to share with each other some answers given on their Observation Guide Sheets. It is recommended to make groups of a maximum of three participants for this closure.

Example of an observation guide sheet: (you can use this list or another of your interest)

  1. Observer name:
  2. What name would you give the observation element?
  3. What attracted you to your object of observation?
  4. Is there anything that seems “just perfect” to you about your object of observation? Write your thought or draw it.
  5. What new learning do you get from nature?
