You can try all 5 colors or just one.<\/p>\n<p>*Quantities of chemicals are per campfire.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>100 grams of Potassium Chloride to create <b>purple<\/b> fire (you can get it at any hardware store)<\/li>\n<li>100 grams of Lithium Chloride to create <b>pink<\/b> fire (you can get it at fireplace stores, or from fireworks suppliers)<\/li>\n<li>100 grams of Borax to create light <b>green<\/b> fire (any powdered detergent contains it)<\/li>\n<li>100 grams of sodium chloride to create <b>orange<\/b> fire (table salt)<\/li>\n<li>100 grams of magnesium sulfate for <b>white<\/b> fire. The myrtle of the<br \/>\nvolcanoes still<br \/>\ngreen burns magnificently. Pine acorns, twigs the thickness of a match, twigs and chips<br \/>\nof resinous<br \/>\nfirewood serve as tinder. Paper is an artificial tinder that works, but no good camper will<br \/>\nhabituate to<br \/>\nits use. Dried leaves and dry grass are quicker to burn, but their fire seldom lasts long enough<br \/>\nfor twigs to ignite.     (see illustration) <\/i><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><i> Types of wood to use and look for: A planned fire saves labor. Pay close attention to<br \/>\nimportant materials that guarantee a good fire, taking into account the following:<\/i><\/p>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li><i>Dry wood that breaks easily when bent.<\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>Dead branches from the lower part of a tree serve best in humid climates,<br \/>\nlook for the<br \/>\ndry twigs found on the lower branches of trees and shrubs, for yesa.  <\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>Sticks lying on the ground may be wet. <\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>Sticks that bend but do not break are green; <\/i><b><i>they are useless, therefore do not<br \/>\ncollect from<br \/>\nthis type.<\/i><\/b> <\/li>\n<li><i>Rotten wood<\/i> <b><i>is useless, it<\/i><\/b> <i>just makes smoke.<\/i> <\/li>\n<li><i>Freshly chopped or cracked wood burns very well, as the inside is drier<br \/>\nthan the outside. In case you relight a fire, place the ashes.<\/i><\/li>\n<li><i>Soft wood such as pine is good for starting a campfire; but hard<br \/>\nwood such as oak gives a longer lasting fire and creates better embers.&#8221;  <\/i><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Directions for building a <b>star campfire<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Once you finish collecting the materials in the following order:\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li>Brush, pine needles, pieces of thin bark.<\/li>\n<li>thin sticks or chips the size of a finger.<\/li>\n<li>Thick branches, firm and dry wood (firewood).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Stand with your back to the wind, kneel down, take five thick branches and they should<br \/>\nbe placed in the shape of a star.<\/li>\n<li>In the center of the star, they should place enough weeds, pine leaves and bark<br \/>\nthin, leaving a space underneath so that air can circulate and so that, when lighting the weeds<br \/>\nwith the match, the flame does not suffocate.<\/li>\n<li>When the brush begins to burn, place thin sticks over the brush, and little by little<br \/>\nadd more thick branches, until the large woods ignite.<\/li>\n<li>When the fire is burning satisfactorily, start adding the logs forming<br \/>\nalways an asterisk.<\/li>\n<li>When the fire is lit, the wood must burn well, blow with the cardboard<br \/>\nso that the flames grow.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s show time, sit around the bonfires to appreciate the changing<br \/>\ncolors.<\/li>\n<li>After you have observed the fire and its color changes, pause, breathe and<br \/>\nthink about what you are feeling.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What was it that caught your attention most about the colored fireworks? It can be all five colors or just one.<\/li>\n<li>Identify the chemicals to use according to the color they produce.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure that the area where the fires will be lit is completely clear, that it is wide enough and where you can get brush, sticks, thick and dry branches (firewood).<\/li>\n<li>Briefly explain to the participants the different types of wood they should use. (see instructions to participants)<\/li>\n<li>It is important that you as a director recognize the types of firewood.<\/li>\n<li>Assign an older person or an assistant in case of children, or an adult who will be responsible for handling the chemicals to change the color of the fire.<\/li>\n<li>Have all the materials on hand and demonstrate what you want them to do.<\/li>\n<li>Build the structure of a campfire until it produces a high flame (we recommend <b><i>\u201cSTAR CAMPSITE\u201d<\/i><\/b> ).<\/li>\n<li>If there are many, divide the participants into three small groups with an assistant to lead and supervise them.<\/li>\n<li>Divide all the materials you collected into three parts, so that each group has what they need to start their campfire.<\/li>\n<li>Once everyone has seen the procedure of how to arrange the firewood, hand out the chemical materials and the matches and a cardboard box to the attendees of each group.<\/li>\n<li>Light the fires at the same time, but change color (chemical) with each one.<\/li>\n<li>Ask the assistants to be the ones to add the chemicals to the fire with great caution.<\/li>\n<li>Once they are lit, sit the participants in a circle around them to watch the colored fires.<\/li>\n<li>When the flames are about 20 cm high, ask each attendee who comes to spread the chemicals, starting with just a pinch to test the chemical to make sure there are no adverse reactions. Tell them to be sure to back up a bit when throwing the powder on the fire to protect themselves.
